January 2015

Happy New Year! And what a year it’s been, there are so many praises to be said. In this update we reveal our top highlights of the year, fun videos, and a glimpse of what’s to come in 2015.

  • Spanning 11 countries in 12 months, our team has had the honor to learn about orphan care on a wide scale- from the EU parliament to the slums of Kibera Kenya.
  • Capturing Sanjay’s story: our team met and filmed our “Eloy of India,” a teenage street boy in Kolkata, and an extraordinary answer to prayer.
  • Making Waves! This year the Eloy Project has hit over 8,500 views on ourteaser trailer, was promoted by Facebook and Gofundme, and featured in the Sammamish Review and TransformNations magazine.

After we finished filming Sanjay in India, our team headed to Thailand. There we met regional director, Thomas Abbott, of Care for Children. We had the pleasure of filming a short video for them to premiere at their national conference, and learned of the incredible work they do to get children back into families. From there we bussed to Cambodia, where we interviewed multiple founders of leading orphan care programs including Craig Greenfield- author ofUrban Halo and founder of Alongsiders International, and Catherine Jones- founder of Children in Families.

It is an understatement to say that we learned a great deal from these two nations. As our team debriefed afterward, we felt an intense sharpening of our understanding on nearly every area of our film- from audience, to message, to screenplay. It has taken a solid year of travel and research for us to arrive at the conclusions that came tumbling out of the meetings in our little rental home of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

After over a year of trekking, we finally put down our cameras and went home to the embrace of loved ones! We spread out across the US, Canada, S.E. Asia, and South Africa. Above is our teammate, Kirk Wong, with his parents, sister and world’s-cutest nieces.

Two of the team members (Casey and Megan) decided to surprise their parents by not telling them they were coming home. Click on the videos below to see their reaction!

Megan surprising her mom…
…then her dad!
Casey sneaks up on both her parents

Right now we are preparing to fly out to Brazil, followed by a “certain country in Asia,” to capture the final two real-life stories of our film. We have truly hit the home stretch of filming and couldn’t be more excited to see what God has in store.

Thank you for your prayers, here are some specific needs of the team:

  • Expedient visa approval for Brazil

  • Donations to cover our final stretch of filming and travel

  • That God makes our path straight to the final two Eloys of our film!
